About Us
Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire SCIO

We believe that to create sustainable communities, local people need to lead in the design and delivery of locally owned, locally led services; that ensure tomorrow's communities thrive.

Creating a movement

Our emphasis is on engaging local people and partner agencies. Through these collaborations we have the power to make a big difference. East Renfrewshire is unique. Together we can create a unique approach that builds on the strengths in our communities.

OUR APPROACH

OUR APPROACH BRINGS EAST RENFREWSHIRE COMMUNITIES TO WORK ALONGSIDE THIRD, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS TO BRING ABOUT LASTING CHANGE.

We work from underCOVER, a community building in Kelburn Street, Barrhead. This is a neutral space where local people can come together to form collaborative responses to local issues and opportunities.

We draw on successful approaches for community-wide change, including: Strengths-based community work, Co-design and Collective Impact.

HOW WE WORK

  • Community participation is at the heart of everything we do.
  • No single individual or organisation can do this work alone – Government, non-profits, businesses and community members need to collaborate to achieve lasting change.
  • Quick fix responses are rarely enough. That is why we want to achieve long-term impact by working at child, family, community and service delivery levels.
  • We are not afraid to try new things – we are always open to testing, learning and improving.
  • We learn from and acknowledge work that has been successful in the past and present.

Why we do it

Dream Together - Change Together

Why we do it?

Improving outcomes

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them” Albert Einstein

We already have great services in East Renfrewshire that improve the lives of many people. However, we also know that many people are lonely, disconnected and facing challenges that affect every aspect of their life. Simply adding more funding, services and programmes are not the answer. While this approach might see improvement for specific individuals and families, when you think of East Renfrewshire as a whole community the old ways don’t address the inequalities that we have seen in the past.

We need to understand why this is the case, and find new ways for us to work together to make change happen.
