About Us
Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire SCIO

We believe that to create sustainable communities, local people need to lead in the design and delivery of locally owned, locally led services; that ensure tomorrow's communities thrive.

Creating a movement

Our emphasis is on engaging local people and partner agencies. Through these collaborations we have the power to make a big difference. East Renfrewshire is unique. Together we can create a unique approach that builds on the strengths in our communities.

OUR APPROACH

OUR APPROACH BRINGS EAST RENFREWSHIRE COMMUNITIES TO WORK ALONGSIDE THIRD, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS TO BRING ABOUT LASTING CHANGE.

We work from underCOVER, a community building in Kelburn Street, Barrhead. This is a neutral space where local people can come together to form collaborative responses to local issues and opportunities.

We draw on successful approaches for community-wide change, including: Strengths-based community work, Co-design and Collective Impact.

Gather Together - Dream Together

HOW WE WORK

  • Community participation is at the heart of everything we do.
  • No single individual or organisation can do this work alone – Government, non-profits, businesses and community members need to collaborate to achieve lasting change.
  • Quick fix responses are rarely enough. That is why we want to achieve long-term impact by working at child, family, community and service delivery levels.
  • We are not afraid to try new things – we are always open to testing, learning and improving.
  • We learn from and acknowledge work that has been successful in the past and present.

Why we do it

Dream Together - Change Together

Our Approach

The Gathering brings a large and diverse group of people together at key points in our journey (one to two times per year). This gives us the opportunity to connect, share insights, identify priority areas for change, align our work, and review our progress.

Dream Catcher involves giving more focused attention to areas for collective action. A small and diverse group of people is brought together to research the relevant issues and causes. After testing different options for action, the group will agree on a collective response designed for East Renfrewshire.

Make It Real - Demonstrators are teams of people who turn ideas into actions. These ideas come largely from identified community need. The Demonstrators then run small-scale tests of change to help determine whether an idea could result in sustainable project or improvement.
